How to Make the Most of Your Student Years
College is not all about reading textbooks and writing papers. You can use this time to make a noticeable investment in your future and create many colorful memories. Here’s a list of things you can do to make the most of your student years.
Read as much as you can
It is during the studying years that we form the understanding of the world and our place in it. Reading fiction and non-fiction books helps a lot. You can compare your views to those of the brightest binds and find the evidence that supports your beliefs or refutes the arguments you have. Also, you won’t probably have as much reading time as you have in college after the graduation. Use every opportunity to learn something new as it will affect your future. The books you’ve read are a perfect topic for any conversation. Download an ebook to your phone or carry a paper copy around just in case you happen to stand in a long line or wait for your friends to come.
Do not be afraid of talking to teachers
No one will think you are a fawner if you have a conversation with a teacher after class. And if they do, it is their problem. If you want to learn more about the particular topic or are looking for a piece of advice from someone wiser, don’t be shy to ask your teacher for it. Some of the best tips and life lessons come from the people we admire and respect. If there is a teacher like that, don’t miss a chance to contact her/him.
Learn how to manage your time
College is the time when you learn to take full responsibility for your actions. If you oversleep a class or turn in an important paper after the deadline, you will have to face the disappointing consequences. There will be no one to look over your shoulder and remind you of something you might forget. It is crucial for every student to learn some basic rules of time management and follow them. Make a schedule and set up your phone to give you reminders. Organize the studying process in the way that you feel comfortable. There is no need to stress out by trying to cope with everything on time. Find a healthy balance and set your priorities.
Experiment with your style
Ever wanted to color your hair purple? Or maybe you’ve always dreamed of having a tattoo? This might be the best time to do it. However, you should remember that some of the style transformations you make are unchangeable. Once you make a big tattoo on your shoulder, it will stay there forever (there are ways to get rid of it but they are painful and costly). Think twice before you commit to something.
Consider having an internship
There is no better way of gaining some practical skills than an internship. It is your chance to see how an ordinary working day looks like and what your main responsibilities can include. Often, students work as cheap essay writers in specialized companies. This helps them gain essay writing skills and earn some money to take a break after school. Additionally, you will meet new people who can give you a great piece of advice and teach you new skills. These are also the people who can help you find a job after the graduation. Networking plays a significant role nowadays.
Use online educational platforms
If you are having trouble understanding some of the concepts, try to find a lecture on that topic online. There are many educational platforms like Coursera or Khan Academy that offer a wide selection of classes you can pass online. They are often taught by university teachers who do not use long and incomprehensible terms to get their message across. In the future, you will most likely have to write an essay on one of these topics. And if you do not force yourself to figure this out, most likely you will have to resort to buying an essay. So take the opportunity to learn everything yourself.
Have a hobby
Do not forget to spend time doing what you love. If you enjoy playing the guitar and can’t imagine your life without music, do not let the endless classes and academic papers stand in your way. Choose the extracurricular activities that let you improve your skills by doing what you are really passionate about. If you don’t have a particular hobby yet, experiment and try to find it. You will see the way passion changes the attitude towards a simple and seemingly boring activity.
Go abroad
Try to visit new countries if you have a chance to do it. Being a student is the perfect time to explore the world. You don’t need to stay in fancy hotels and have luxurious excursions. With the services like Couchsurfing and free tours, you have the possibility to go abroad visit spending a lot of money. If there is an option of studying for some time abroad, go for it. You will learn a new language, meet interesting people, and see breathtaking places.
Exercise and meditate
Even though you are young and healthy, do not forget to take care of yourself. Exercises are the best way of keeping your body in shape and your mind in peace. Meditation has a healing effect and will make you feel fresh and full of energy. You can try using different techniques to find the one that works for you.
Set clear goals
Do not forget to set clear goals to make sure you are moving in the right direction. They should be feasible so try to be realistic. When you have a specific plan, it will be easier to decide what steps to take. You are now in the point A and want to reach the point B by the end of this semester. What do you have to do? The more specific you are the better.
If you have more points to add to this list, please share them with us. We want every student to use these years to the fullest. the final point we want to add is to have as many bright and colorful memories as you can. Don’t be afraid to take a risk or make a fool of yourself. Often times, those turn out to be the funniest and most memorable moments.
